Hair regrowth is the holy grail in haircare science. No cure has yet been discovered for baldness.
At any age, we can experience hair loss or thinning hair. In men, hair is generally lost in a well-defined pattern on the scalp, beginning above both of the temples. For women, hair becomes thinner all over the head but the hairline does not recede. Hormones, hereditary factors and medical conditions are thought to play a role in hair loss.
In this post I am going to discuss things you can do that may help stimulate the hair follicle.
Grape seed oil and rosemary oil massaged into the hair and scalp are thought to improve scalp blood flow which may help slow down hair loss.
It is also possible that the consumption of green tea can inhibit levels of an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase, which converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone. Reducing this enzyme is thought to help hair growth. A study was done that followed the consumption of green tea over the course of 6 months. Significant hair growth was documented towards the end of the study.
The consumption of pumpkin seed oil capsules twice a day helps reduces the levels 5-alpha reductase. Reducing these levels may help with hair regrowth.
As we age, the thickness of our hair strands change. A number of studies have been done to look at these changes in hair diameter as we age and have found that our hair strands initially start to increase in diameter.
Women’s maximum hair diameter is reached around the age of 40-45, making it likely
that menopause is somehow involved in the reduction of hair strand diameter. In
contrast to women, men’s hair diameter increases to a maximum in the late teenage
years and then decreases rapidly with age. This means that our hair strand diameter
initially increases until it reaches a maximum and then decreases as we age. Hair diameter can influence the coverage of hair on the scalp. When our hair thickness reduces, it is perceived as thinning of the hair.
