Easy DIY Face Masks

As most of us are at home, I felt a need to feel nurtured. I think it’s important right now to soothe ourselves as much as possible. These little acts of caring for ourselves are so important. I love making DIY face masks. I typically do a face mask every week, but feel free to do a mask a couple times a week!

For all masks, I leave them on for about 15-20 minutes. After that time, I gently rinse off by splashing my face with water or use a washcloth. I then hydrate with a face cream.

Leftover masks can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Turmeric Honey Mask

  • 1 tablespoon of natural, plain yogurt

  • 1 tablespoon of honey

  • 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder

Like milk, yogurt contains lactic acid which makes a visible difference to your skin by lifting away rough and flakey surface cells to uncover much newer, brighter ones.

Thanks to moisturizing honey, skin feels soft. Turmeric is useful for combating pigmentation.

Calming Honey Mask

  • 2 tablespoons of pure honey

  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon

  • 1 wedge of fresh lemon

Warm honey in the microwave for a few seconds; combine with cinnamon and juice of a lemon wedge into a small bowl. Cinnamon can reduce inflammation and redness—plus, it soaks up excess oil when applied topically. Lemon helps exfoliate skin. Gently massage the mixture onto your face.

Blemish-Fighting Milk Mask

  • 2 tablespoons of honey

  • 2 tablespoons of nutmeg

  • 2 teaspoons of milk

This honey milk mask helps to treat acne-prone skin. Honey naturally kills bacteria to prevent future breakouts and nutmeg acts as a gentle exfoliator that's great for sensitive skin.

The Anti-Aging Chocolate Mask

  • 1/2 cup of cocoa powder

  • 3 tablespoons of oats

  • 4 tablespoons of coconut cream, whipping cream or any milk

  • 1/4 cup of honey

Applied topically, cocoa has anti-aging properties, which help the production of collagen. Combined with honey, coconut cream/whipping cream/milk — you have a wonderful blend that easily smooths onto your face. Apply a thin layer, gently rinse off.

Exfoliating Mask

  • 3 Tablespoons baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon honey

  • 1 teaspoon oil

  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 3 to 4 teaspoons milk

Mix all the ingredients together in a small container and apply to face. Gently work the mixture into skin. Rinse off with water, using a circular motion for more exfoliating action.

Baking soda is exfoliating, gently scrubs away dead skin. Honey naturally hydrates skin and is rich in antioxidants and has anti-microbial properties. Cinnamon has a warming effect on skin which brings fresh, oxygen-rich blood to the surface to kill bacteria and detoxify the skin and gives a healthy rosy glow.
